Academic portfolios were created and distributed to several high schools students in the Houston-area. The binder will be used to help students organize their academic acheivements, community involvements, and school activities.

The eight conponents of the binder include:

(1) Scholarship Research

(2) Community Programs

(3) Volunteer Work

(4) School Activites (clubs/sports/societies)

(5) Employment/Resume

(6) Test scores/Grades

(7) Awards/Honors/Scholarships received

(8) References (for letter of recommendations)

Initiatives for All conducts presentations on the four key factors in preparing for college. The purpose of the academic portfolio is explained and the binders are distributed to students to update throughout their high school and college careers.

This project was funded by The Mayor's Challenge Grant and granted through the Houston READ Commission.
